DeepSeek V4.1 Flash (1017) Comes to AI Game Developer on October 19
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 arrives in AI Game Developer on October 19, 2026: big gains on coding and agent benchmarks, 1M context and image input.
We have some good news to share: the updated DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, released as DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, powers the DeepSeek V4.1 Flash model in AI Game Developer starting October 19, 2026 at 08:00 UTC (1:00 AM Pacific). If you already use Flash, there is nothing to do. From that moment your requests go to the new version automatically, with the same model name and the same workflow. If you are new here, the quickstart guide at ai-game.dev/docs/quickstart gets you running in a couple of minutes.
Flash has been our recommended everyday model for a while: it is fast, it handles long sessions well, and it is a great fit for the many small, quick steps an AI agent takes while it works inside a game engine. The 1017 release keeps all of that and makes the model noticeably smarter, especially at the agentic and coding work that matters most for game development.
What Is New in DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017
DeepSeek published a benchmark comparison for the new release. Compared with the previous V4.1 Flash, the 1017 version improves on every benchmark in the table, and on several agent-focused benchmarks it scores higher than every other model in the comparison.

Biggest Improvements Over the Previous Flash
- Terminal-Bench 4.0: 31.2 → 42.3, a jump of more than a third on real terminal and tool-driven tasks
- ProgramBench: 20.3 → 29.1, roughly 43% higher on writing complete programs
- Apex Bench v1.1: 64.6 → 72.1
- Automation-Bench V1.0.6: 54.8 → 60.5
- Agents' Last Exam: 31.8 → 35.4
- HLE (without tools): 36.8 → 42.6, and 39.1 → 44.0 on the text subset
- DeepSWE v1.1: 74.2 → 77.0
Where It Leads the Whole Table
On DeepSWE v1.1 (77.0), Automation-Bench (60.5), Agents' Last Exam (35.4) and Apex Bench (72.1), the new Flash posts the highest score in the comparison, ahead of Kimi K3, GLM 5.3, GPT 5.6-Sol and Claude Opus 5. Frontier models such as Claude Opus 5 still lead on the hardest tests such as HLE, ProgramBench and Terminal-Bench, and that is expected. What makes this release exciting is how close a fast, lightweight model now gets to them on practical, multi-step agent work.
Benchmarks are only part of the story, of course, and every project is different. We encourage you to try it on your own scenes and scripts and see how it feels.
Why This Matters for AI Game Development
When an AI agent builds a game with AI Game Developer, it rarely answers a single question. It reads the scene, inspects components, writes a script, waits for the engine to compile, checks the console, fixes an error and tries again. That is exactly the kind of long, tool-driven loop that agent benchmarks such as Terminal-Bench, Automation-Bench and Apex Bench try to measure, so improvements there translate directly into fewer retries and smoother sessions in your engine.
- Better tool use: more reliable multi-step work with Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot tools
- Stronger coding: cleaner gameplay scripts and fewer compile-fix-retry cycles
- Fast by design: Flash remains our fastest DeepSeek option, so iterations stay snappy
- 1M token context: room for large scenes, long scripts and long conversations
- Image input: share a screenshot of your scene or UI and ask the agent about it
- Thinking and non-thinking modes: reason through a hard task, or answer quickly when speed matters
To reflect the upgrade, we have also raised the intelligence rating of DeepSeek V4.1 Flash in our model catalog, so it now sits level with other strong fast models such as GLM 5.3 Flash.
How to Use DeepSeek V4.1 Flash
There is no separate model to choose and no setting to change. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash keeps its place in the model list of the AI Game Developer App, and from October 19, 2026 at 08:00 UTC every request to it is served by the 1017 release.
